Campey is head of the social planning council, a sort of umbrella organization of "non profit" groups in Toronto. Most non profit groups are cause pimps. The problem with non profits is that is the wrong model for delivering social services, social goods. It pre-empts a deep democracy, with services provided under the direction of local government and of a community level of government.
The worst thing about non profits is the flawed board of directors model, which virtually guarantees takeovers by opportunists. The reason you have community levels of government is to prevent that; to make sure that people running these services are delivering what is needed, and that they are answerable to somebody; like, the public.
Campey probably thinks he is doing good. You do not do good by associating with bad. You go away from bad. You do not get mixed up with people like Michael Shapcott and you do not help create insults like the "25 in 5" campaign.
